McDonald’s is one of the great franchise opportunities with over 36,000 locations in 100 countries.
One major McDonalds drawback for me is well over 50% of the time the Franchise owner does not own the land or does not own the building or both. They are leasing it and paying rent.
This means they miss out on a very large payout when they sell or refi.
One Source stated the average Profit for a McDonald’s franchise was $150,000/year+_. Another resource had it between $70,000 to $130,000/year with the average being $93,000/year.
Self storage profits vary based upon locations, size, etc, but I am comfortable saying that a well-run self-storage facility with 65,000 net rentable self-storage makes well over McDonald's average income.
Both Storage Authority and McDonalds require franchise owners to participate in the business. Certainly, both provide a need and have lots of customers. One advantage Storage Authority has for many is significantly fewer staff.
Both need to be on a main road with considerable local populations. Finding the right property is key and a challenge for both franchises.
There is no doubt some will be attracted to a McDonald's Franchise and others to a Storage Authority Franchise. And most people will not have the ambition to do either.
