By Marc Goodin Storage Authority Awarded 12 new franchises in 2023. And there was a significant number who did not qualify for one of two reasons. One reason was simple they did not have the money required. The other reason people do not qualify for a Storage Authority franchise is a bit more subjective.
We are looking for franchisees who are committed to being super successful and have the drive, commitment, and passion needed to be really successful. And this qualifier comes down to your reason why. When I ask prospects why Self Storage and why Storage Authority, they have lots of good reasons such as; few employees, low overhead, tax advantages, very profitable, loan friendly, residual and generational wealth, and so on................
I often have to ask them a second question to find their reason why. What would happen if you do not build a self-storage?
When I hear:
Nothing much or;
I will leave my money in the stock market or;
I will have to look for other investments or;
Not sure
I become concerned they may be up for giving it a try but not sure they are ready to do what it takes. Everyone is super busy, but few are really willing to add another day of work to their week.
When I hear:
I really want to retire early, and this is my big move to make it happen or;
I will not have the lifestyle in retirement that I have now and that is totally unacceptable.
I love what I do but I am afraid one day I will not have the ability to perform (surgeon) and will not be able to continue the lifestyle we are accustomed to or:
It is important I leave my spouse and eventually the kids with an ongoing income or;
I really love creating businesses and its time for me to diversify.
Bingo!! If you have a reason that is incredibly important to you, you will do the hard work and make it happen.
Before you jump into self-storage take some time and think about why you want to build a self-storage. Do you have a big enough, important enough reason why, that will motivate you to put in the extra hours, work on the weekend, and commit to making your plan happen? Self-storage is not your passion it is your vehicle for you to reach financial goals and dreams.
