Why Balance Wins in Both Investing and Fitness
For me, true wealth is not just a number. If you have money but no time or health, you’re not wealthy — at least not by my definition. Real wealth = money + time + health.
And yet, whether it’s money or movement, people love to pick sides. Some swear by stocks, others by real estate, and some believe entrepreneurship is the only real path to wealth.
In fitness, the same thing happens — runners on one side, weightlifters on the other.
But long-term success rarely comes from choosing one lane. It comes from combining strengths. The wisest investors and the strongest athletes don’t stay one-dimensional — they build balanced portfolios and balanced bodies that can perform in any condition.
💰 Investing Works Best When You Mix Models
Stocks and self-storage both build wealth — just in different ways.• Stocks compound over time, largely passively.• Self-storage compounds too, but with the added benefit of monthly cash flow and the opportunity to significantly multiply returns through your own effort, development, and business ownership.
I’ve been around investments since high school. Early on, I learned from my dad through the self-storage and multifamily business. Later, I gained experience helping others invest in the stock market as a broker. Today, I see the power of both approaches — they don’t compete, they complement.
We even see it with Storage Authority franchisees: some sell stocks or a business to build a self-storage facility… and later invest back into the market using the cash flow the facility generates. That’s called strategy, not switching sides.

🏃♂️💪 Fitness Follows the Same Rules
Running builds endurance and cardiovascular health.Lifting builds strength and structure.Doing only one limits your potential — doing both creates vitality.
I personally run 5–20 miles a day, and now that I’ve just moved to Tennessee, I’ll also be getting back into the gym to add more balanced training. I share my fitness struggles and wins with my dad — he tracks his steps, I track my miles — and it’s a reminder that your physical game plan evolves with age, just like your investment plan.
🔑 The One Thing I Know for Sure
There is no single perfect wealth plan and no universal fitness routine. What works for you today may not serve you tomorrow. The key is adaptation and balance.
So whether you’re deciding where to invest or how to train, start with this question:
How do I build a future where I can enjoy both my money and my body for as long as possible?
That’s real wealth.
