Garrett and my wife GP look pretty happy in this picture. This is our brand new kitchen just completed days before both Hurricane Helena and Milton attacked and flooded it 3 feet deep. Everything is ruined from soaking in the muddy contaminated salt water. Sheetrock, electrical, hot water tank, all appliances, furniture, clothes, kitchen supplies, fishing equipment, EVERYTHING!!
So why is Garrett & GP smiling? Two reasons. 1) It is just stuff and we are lucky we will not feel the financial pain that will cripple so many people.
2) Our Condo Association board and management team are exceptional. The day before Helena the management team set up for the condo Insurance adjuster to come out and also hired a restoration team from New England to do the cleanup (before the storm Helana even hit land). By the end of October the debris, trash, and sand will be removed from the property, and flooded units will be fully emptied, sheetrock removed, cleaned, decontaminated, and handed back to owners to rebuild. This is HUGE. Many people on the barrier islands will not return to their houses for over a year. We plan on being in ours this Feb. A fast start makes a difference.
