The term “grind” in the context of work, goes back to the 1800’s college slang to describe boring, long, tedious work. In the same way that “grind” means to wear away, crush, or reduce into smaller particles, it doesn’t sound very glamorous at all. However, recent trends have given it a positive spin- especially on social media.
Some would say that “the grind” has been glamorized, and I’d agree. I see it all the time while scrolling social media- proud successful professionals bragging about their grind- getting it done- putting in the hours to achieve success; gym rats showing off their physique because they’ve been “grinding it out” at the gym.
I worked for years in a high-stress, high-output environment, where the expectations were limitless, and the grind was part of the culture. Putting in extra hours was the norm, paid or unpaid, and it was all for the sake of “being part of something bigger than yourself.” Or so it was said time and time again from the leadership, hoping to inspire every employee to go above and beyond, and we did, and we celebrated it.
At the end of the day, the grind was for the job and did little for my long-term goals, for my personal life, or for the lifestyle that I desired.
Is now your time to switch your grind? Is it time to focus less on the job, and jump into a different, new grind? One that can provide the lifestyle you want; the lifestyle you deserve?
Self-storage development- finding land, designing, building, and getting that first phase filled up- is a grind. It takes time, hard work, and dedication. It is 8 hours minimum per week- on top of your 9-5. It is sacrifice. And it is worth every second, every ounce of energy, every phone call, every parcel of land explored, every change to the design to get it “just right.”
Are you ready to change your life? If you’re reading this, chances are you already know that self-storage can provide you with the lifestyle of your dreams, and the Storage Authority Franchise model can get you there. Are you ready to choose your grind?
