I think most everyone will agree consumers have shifted to online purchasing. Here is a recent Forbes artice that goes ino the details: The New Trajectory of Retail Innovation Is By Digital First Customers
The Reits understand this and well over 90 percent have their rental rates online and allow customers to either take reservations or rent on line. But only around half the small operators. have prices listed and can rent on line.
That is bad news for a lot of self storage owners with outdated websites. To some degree I understand. it cost money to build a new website. And how do we compete with the Reits teraser rates the REITs. I held out in the begining as well but now the evidence is clear it is a digital world and to be a premium facility you must be a part of it.
Of course it is great news who understand the consumer and offer them what they want. Both high touch and high tech options. We can always beat the Reits because we can always copy their technology but they can never follow our high touch consumer service and high touch leadership. We are the Ritz of and they are the motel 6 of self storage.
