What can look like full-on chaos day to day can look like success if you get passed today and it turns into success in the long run.
Let me give you an example.
I am close to finishing up a 3-month goal to get back in shape & lose my huge wine belly. I have just been having too much fun for the last 3 years without concern for my health or weight. For 5 months at our seaside campground, the gang gathers every night by the fire for drinks and all-you-can-eat junk food. and the rest of the year we have friends and family over 3-5 nights a week in our garage man cave for more of the same.
I gained 20 lbs. And at 5' 7" tall it looked like 50 lbs on me. Two months in and I have lost 14 lbs and looking and feeling better. I expect to hit my perfect body weight at the end of next month.
I was ready to say the plan is not working over and over because when I looked short term it always looked like Iike I was stuck in a weight range. I Sleep right, eat right, workout right, walk right according to the plan why should be stuck at the same weight for a week?
Now I feel like I have been stuck at 146 +_ for a week. But from experience, I know if I keep following my plan I will shortly drop to 145 then 144, and so on until I hit my final goal of 140.
My coach said to weigh myself 1 or 2 times a week. Of course, being the engineer I am I weigh myself every morning. But as you can see he is correct. Do the work and you will see the results.
The same goes for finding Self Storage land. You have to have a work plan. You have to do the work. And you have to keep track of the results.
Don't forget to keep track of the items that lead to your success! Too often we think we are doing the work but are not
The plan is the specific activities you are going to do every week. If you skip a week you are going to gain weight and repeat the week, maybe two weeks.
A good sign you have figured out the right things to do on a regular basis is you are presenting 2- 4 offers a month. So this is the main item you need to track bi-monthly. If you are making offers all is going your way. If you are not making offers you need a new game plan. Call your mentor now!!
Just like losing weight and feeling better, there are several items you should be keeping track of to make sure you hit your goal of having your land offer accepted.
Here are some main ones are:
How many hours are you driving the roads & computer looking for land?
How many letters do you send out to landowners each week?
How many people did you tell you are looking for land today and this week?
How many towns do you have a zoning map for and know for sure what zones permit self storage?
How many times did you share your results with your mentor?
How much time weekly do you spend reading & learning about self storage?
Losing weight is hard every day. But you know what it gets easier the more you do it. My coach suggested I drink 8 bottles of water. I let him know I don't like to drink water and that going from 0 to 8 bottles would be impossible. He suggested 4 bottles as a minimum and I accepted the challenge. I almost look forward to drinking water now that it is a habit.
Finding land is hard. The first step is writing down all the reasons why self storage is important to you. If they are not super important to you, you might want to consider giving up now vs complaining about how hard it is every day and wasting your time.
Every morning I remind myself how fortunate I am to work hard today to get back in shape. And if you think it is easy try drinking a bottle of wine a day and then give it up.
